Judy Mardnli – Paths to Freedom

Judy Mardnli, born in Syria in 1988, fled to Austria and completed his studies in painting and graphic arts at the University of Arts Linz in 2021. Since 2023, he has been working regularly at the Mauthausen Memorial, where he connects the history of the site with his own experiences as a refugee. In doing so, he explores locations at the memorial whose history particularly touches him and inspires him to create his art: ‘I want to create a work of art that tells of yesterday so that the memory does not fade tomorrow. A work of art that causes today’s generation to stop and deal with this topic again and again. Nothing is worse than forgetting!’
