‘Make a twofold disappearance visible’: New photo exhibition at the Mauthausen Memorial

On 10 April 2019, the Mauthausen Memorial will showcase work by Austrian photographer Marko Zink in the exhibition ‘M (48° 15’ 24.13” N, 14° 30’ 6.31” E)’. Zink’s aim in this project is to use photographic techniques to make a twofold disappearance visible: the extermination of people and the eradication of memory.

The Tenth Mauthausen Dialogue Forum takes place on 17 and 18 September 2018 with the theme “Holocaust in Film and New Media”.

Book Launch: Elmer Luchterhand “Einsame Wölfe und stabile Paare” Mauthausen-Studien (volume 11)

"Einsame Wölfe und stabile Paare. Verhalten und Sozialordnung in den Häftlingsgesellschaften nationalsozialistischer Konzentrationslager" is the German translation of Prisoner Behavior and Social System in Nazi Concentration Camps, a PhD dissertation by the American sociologist Elmer Luchterhand, which was accepted in 1953. The publication of this edition, edited by Andreas Kranebitter and Christian Fleck means that an impressive proportion of Elmer Luchterhand’s hitherto unpublished work is now accessible to researchers.

Free Guided Tours following the International Liberation Cermeony

On Sunday 6 May 2018 at 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm the Mauthausen Memorial offers free guided tours through the memorial site following the International Liberation Ceremony.

On 21 March 2018, 06:30 p.m., the autobiography by the 96 year-old Slovakian Mauthausen survivor and internationally-renowned film critic Pavel Branko will be presented at the Admiral Kino in Vienna in the presence of the author.

The internationally renowned writer and historian, Doron Rabinovici, gave a reading from his literary works on 18 September 2017, 08:00 pm, at the Wissensturm in Linz.

The 9th Dialogforum Mauthausen took place from 18 to 19 September 2017 at the Visitor Centre of the Mauthausen Memorial. This year's topic was 'Addressing the National Socialist Past in Art'.

Open Air Film Retrospective: 'Individual Responsibility 1933 to 1945' (in German language)

From 23 to 26 August 2017, films exploring the topic of 'Individual Responsibility 1933 to 1945' were screened at 08:00 pm outside the Visitor Centre at the Mauthausen Memorial.

Survivors' Reception 'We are the next generation'

Working together with young people, the Mauthausen Memorial organised a reception for survivors with the title 'We are the next generation', which took place on 7 May 2017, immediately after the International Liberation Ceremony.

Opening of the 'Bistro Mauthausen Memorial'

Since 1 March 2016, four people with disabilities – supported by professional catering staff from the charity Diakoniewerk – have been providing visitors to the Mauthausen Memorial with refreshments at the 'Bistro Mauthausen Memorial'. Following extensive renovations made possible by the Burghauptmannschaft Austria, the restaurant, which is run on an integrative model, was reopened on 5 April 2017 by State Governor Dr. Josef Pühringer at a ceremony at the Mauthausen Memorial Visitor Centre.

Book Presentation: 'The Second Tier'

After the 8th Mauthausen Memorial Dialogue Forum on 19 September 2016, in the 'Brückenkopf West' building in Linz for the first time a publication with biographies of perpetrators from the Mauthausen Concentration Camp was presented.

From 19 to 20 September 2016, already the 8th Dialogue Forum took place in the visitor centre of the Mauthausen Memorial, this time featuring the topic perspectives of perpetrator research.

Open-Air-Film Retrospective: 'Denied Guilt and Lasting Responsibility'

From 24 to 27 August 2016, films on the topic 'Denied Guilt and Lasting Responsibility' were shown in front of the visitor centre of the Mauthausen Memorial, starting at 08:00 pm.

Opening of the exhibition 'I am Yehuda Bacon. I never wanted to become a 'concentration-camp-professional'.'

On 19 May 2016 the exhibition was opened in the personal presence of the artist, who had been detained in the concentration camps Mauthausen and Gusen and who survived a death march.

On 15 May 2016 the 'Memorial Book for the Dead of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp and its Subcamps' was presented in the presence of Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer and Federal Minister of the Interior Mag. Wolfgang Sobotka in the Visitor Centre of the Mauthausen Memorial

Opening of the touring exhibition 'Talking About It'

On 11 February 2016 the Mauthausen Memorial, together with _erinnern.at_ (BMBF), invited representatives from regional schools to a special event for teachers. This also marked the official opening of the touring exhibition Talking About It, which was on display in the Visitor Centre at the Mauthausen Memorial from 11 February to 4 March 2016.
