Commemoration in Mauthausen on 2 May 2024

This year marks the 79^th anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps on 5 May 1945.

To mark this occasion, a commemoration event will take place on 2 May at 3:30 pm with a focus on ‘The Diversity of Commemoration’. The intention is to highlight different forms of commemoration. A walk will take visitors to different sites of memory around the Mauthausen Memorial. We invite you to join us.

Itinerary:

3:30 pm           Greeting on the forecourt; start of the walk of remembrance along the camp road to the former roll call square

4:30 pm           Remembrance ceremony ‘The Diversity of Commemoration’

Reading of statements on ‘What does Mauthausen mean for us today?’´

Musical accompaniment 

followed by     Visit to the cemetary, laying of flowers 

5:30 pm           Official end

Flowers will be provided by the Mauthausen Memorial
